Motherhood: Painful/Pleasurable
Motherhood is an alliance between a child and their mother. This state of being is often culturally defined. As an institution, motherhood can be an individual’s decision or imposed by a person’s culture. Some cultures allow females the opportunity to reject or delay the experience of motherhood, while others have an extreme idea of motherhood and force the situation upon women. Regardless of the culture, women have a wide range of influences that dominate the quality of life they must provide for their children. The decision to become a mother and choices made can be painful and or pleasurable. The images in this working Motherhood Series portfolio, Motherhood: Painful/Pleasurable, series illuminate the basic universal responsibilities that are internalized by all mothers: food, wellness, and financial security; cognitive and emotion development; and safety from external forces.

The photographs in this exhibition represent a selection of images from Motherhood: Painful/Pleasurable. The intent is to capture hands as representative of emotions elicited by women who are mothers or may be contemplating motherhood.

A Closer Look at Flowers
David’s photographs look more like paintings than photos. flowers

His overall approach is the same as it was as a research/product development engineer. Then, he would let the problem guide him to the solution approach, rather than starting with a preconceived tool kit and applying it. Much the same way, he treats each photograph from the standpoint of doing what it appears the subject/shot needs to best represent it. David recently retired as the Engineering Manager of Visual Simulation Systems at the Boeing Company & now focuses his attention on photography

1. Dautel is off Olive Blvd., 1.6 miles east of I-270, 1.1 miles west of Lindbergh.
2. Turn north at Walgreens.
3. Travel 1/2 mile.
4. Then turn right at Rainbow Village and follow the signs to Neve Shalom.

We are in the building that borders the woods in back; follow the path down on the North side of the lower level circular parking lot to our painted door.
